Recycling fee

The number of e-bikes has increased considerably in recent years.
The battery of an electric bicycle is basically a large battery and, as with regular batteries, we prefer to recycle them in order to avoid adversely affecting the environment as much as possible.
A national recycling fee for the collection and recycling of discarded batteries of €14 per e-bike battery has been in effect in the Netherlands since 1 January 2014. The initiative for the introduction of this recycling fee was taken by mobility branch organization BOVAG at the Dutch government's request.  It's the bicycle industry's way of contributing to the correct processing of electronic equipment, as is also customary in the electronics industry.

Recycling fee
The recycling fee is a fixed amount of €14 per e-bike battery, regardless of the price of the e-bike, the type of battery or the type of motor.
This fee or disposal charge cannot be included in the price and is therefore settled separately. When you purchase an electric bicycle or battery in our web shop, this charge will be automatically added to your shopping cart.

Environment
Do you care about the environment? Or are all those exhaust fumes in the city bothering you? You can do something about it by going electric.
When you’re dropping your children off at daycare using an electric bicycle instead of a car, you're contributing to the reduction of exhaust fumes being released into the air and you're lessening your impact on the environment by up to 50 times, compared to when you'd taken your car.
But... batteries are not climate neutral or environmentally friendly. To compensate for this, you're often charged a small disposal charge for electrical equipment.

Nothing lasts forever
You're totally on board - in fact, you can't imagine living without your electric bicycle. What an invention!
But after a long period of time and lots of use, your battery isn’t what it used to be. While you were fine before charging your battery once or twice a week, you find yourself charging it more and more often now.
Time for a new battery.
While it's great that you don't have to buy an entire new e-bike when your battery stops functioning properly, a new battery isn't exactly cheap either - even if it is a lot less pricey than a new e-bike. But e-bikes are utility products and sadly don't last forever.

No bulky waste
The battery is basically just that, a battery. And you know better than anyone that batteries can't just be tossed out along with bulky waste. Not even your old e-bike and battery.
At Hollandbikeshop.com, we want to make sure your battery ends up being recycled properly. We're even required by law to make sure of this (the so-called obligation to collect), just like anyone else selling batteries. The Dutch Battery Foundation (STIBAT) helps us do so.
Does your e-bike barely make it to your local supermarket anymore and do you need a new battery? Don't worry! You can return your old battery to your local cycling expert free of charge. Bike shops have collection bins to leave your old battery in. STIBAT then collects the old batteries and makes sure they are recycled in the best way possible.
This way we're all contributing to the reduction of harmful materials being released into our beautiful environment!

Small fee
When you buy a new e-bike battery or electric bicycle, you may be charged a small additional fee, the so-called recycling fee or disposal charge, to cover recycling costs.
If we were to charge this fee when you returned your old battery, it wouldn't be very motivating. So we charge you in advance.
Clever, right? This way we all contribute to a better environment.
